And Life Goes On...

So, I got a promotion at work today.

Very nice; I'm happy about it and looking forward to being able to use my management background.

Then Jonathan and I had a fight.

*sigh*

I just can't seem to get my life going in the right direction in any two areas of my life at the same time.

Is it me?

Oh sweet mary NO. I think it's quite rare that anyone has everything under control all at once. You are perfectly normal and you have a small child, a job, a home, and are struggling through the first few years of marriage and trying to figure out where you're headed.

70% of mother works. Yes - 70%. 5% can afford to stay home and of those 5% that can afford to stay home - those fall in the category of their husbands making over $115K a year; 25% can't afford to work and raise children. Be ever so thankful that you can even strive to balance such a crazy platter of expectations. I am incredibly disillusion with the church at this stage in my life which seems to unsupportive of working parents and completely disconnected with what it takes to raise a family anymore. That one parent has to work from home while the other works outside of the home, but the idea that one "doesn't work" is hardly existent anymore. As I've looked across facebook I've certainly found this to be true. The financial advancement of the family is more determinant on the wife's ability to earn an income and long term - your family will have a future just proven by the fact that you can go out and work right now. It may feel stressful, but kudos for you. In the long run, you WILL be ok. Sean and I went through some very similar transition when we first married, left church ministries, tried to switch jobs, had our first child, and I was the breadwinner -it was SO stressful and people weren't supportive...but I promise in a few years it will ALL Make sense and be worth it. Hang in there! And turn towards each other, not against each other.
